From the Executive Director's Desk at North Woodmere

I am glad to be part of the Bristal family. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. I have been a Nurse for 11 years and have been working in the assisted living field for the past 6 years. I wish everyone health and happiness in the upcoming year. What a splendid time everyone had at the annual holiday party. We have so many pictures showing the good time we had. I was so glad to see you and your families enjoying yourselves. I look forward to bringing in the New Year with all of you, sharing fun and laughter and making wonderful new memories.

A Note From the Recreation Director at East Northport

It was such a pleasure enjoying the holidays with you this year. I had a wonderful time dancing and singing with you at our first holiday party. The beginning of the new year is a perfect time to reflect on all of the joyous occasions of your past while focusing on new beginnings for your future. I hope this new year brings you all lots of happiness and good health. If you have not tried one of our exciting fitness classes now is the time to come join in! I will see you there!

East Meadow's Resident of the Month - Anthony “Tony” Cangelosi

It is with great pleasure that Tony is our Resident of the Month for December. He resided in Elmont before moving to The Bristal in April. Tony’s parents were born in Italy. He has one younger brother, three sons, and five grandchildren. His twin sons, Rocco and Anthony live in Merrick and his other son Joseph resides in Florida. Tony owned Sam Pone Auto Repair in Brooklyn for thirty years. For a few years he worked as a mechanic for Pan American, and then as Maintenance Mechanic for Sewanhaka High School district for the vehicles they owned. Tony served in the Army for three years during WWII where he was active in the Europe Conflict. Tony was also involved in the Albertson VFW.

During Tony’s free time, he enjoyed weekly fishing trips out of Captree State Park, dancing to Swing & Waltz music, going to casino’s and the racetrack. At the Bristal he continues his passion for gambling by playing cards, horseracing, blackjack and occasionally playing bingo. Tony really enjoys living at The Bristal. He feels a real sense of independence in his own apartment. He shared with me, “It’s a great feeling that you know what you have to do to live comfortably and the Bristal makes sure that happens.” Keep up your wonderful demeanor! You are a pleasure!

Westbury's Employee of the Month - Cordella Davis

Cordella is a staff member who owns the distinction of becoming Employee of the Month for the third time! She has been with the company for nine years and works in the Wellness Department. She appreciates the Bristal for giving her the opportunity to rise from a floor aide to a med aide and supervisor. Cordella has earned this advancement because when extra help is needed, she really steps up to the plate. She knows what the job entails and is a very competent and productive worker.

Cordella is the mother of an eight year old boy named Kamron: he is the light of her life. The things she enjoys the most are cooking and watching television with her son. Her journey to the Bristal each day is rather long and takes several different routes. Sometimes she drives in with a co-worker and other times she takes the bus or the train. She always gets here, no matter what!

Cordella feels that she is in a good place right now. “I’m very satisfied with my life, my son brings me great joy, I love my job and I can’t complain about a single thing.”
