From the Executive Director’s Desk at East Meadow

The Bristal of East Meadow recently had their Annual Inspection! I am proud to say we are completely Violation Free! Thank you to all the staff throughout the building for making us the ultimate Assisted Living! You really are the best!

It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating Memorial Day and July 4th! This summer was very memorable starting with our “Senior” Prom, barbecues, concerts, beach and Hawaiian theme days to just name a few. I can’t believe that it’s the end of the summer and my kids will be starting school again. The High Holidays will be also be here soon. So, L’Shana Tova to all!

A Note From the Recreation Director at North Hills

As we head towards the Fall season, we should all start looking forward to many more exciting outings! We will definitely be going to Millridge Inn towards the end of the month, the Italian Festival at Hofstra and “A Grand Night for Singing” at Westbury Manor. Also, since Yonker’s Casino was such a hit in July, we’re going to go back a try our luck again in the beginning of the month. Make sure to sign up fast, seats go quickly! Grandparent’s Day activities will kick it off Assisted Living Week. We will, again, spotlight our resident artists with an Art Show and Cocktail Party mid-week. Have a wonderful end of the Summer and an even better Fall!

East Northport’s Resident of the Month – Joyce Milani

Joyce was born in Brooklyn, NY. She says she had a very happy childhood with her parents and her brother Charles Jr. Growing up she had always loved to help others. Joyce received her PHD in Psychology from North Western University. She worked through the New York State Office of Mental Health as a Psychologist. Joyce also had her own independent private practice. Joyce married John Milani whom she had five beautiful children: Gina, Nadine, Lisa, John, and Renee. They gave her twelve wonderful grandchildren.

No matter what the days activities call for you can always count on Joyce to be there! She is the number one dancer at all of our entertainment events and concert outings. Her new goal is to learn how to play the piano. Joyce’s smile, positive outlook, and endless energy are a true joy to be around. She inspires all of us to stay positive and to take advantage of all that life has to offer. Joyce you are a true inspiration to us all and that is why you are resident of the month! Congratulations Joyce!

Massapequa’s Employee of the Month – Ruth Gupta

Ruth Gupta has worked for the Bristal for two years and has a soft spoken approach and calm speaking manner. She grew up in Massapequa. Her parents were originally from India and passed on their family values to a woman who is being recognized as one of the Bristal best. Ruth has a very sensitive personality which makes her caring and concerned about the residents she cares for. Ruth attended nursing school before she came to work for the Bristal. She has a BSN degree from Adelphi University and is a firm believer in holistic medicine. She believes in prevention and education and in promoting well-being. “Whenever I get to interact with the residents I encourage them to live their life to the fullest,” she remarks. Ruth has two sisters and is very proud of her heritage. She has only visited India once, but plans to return in the future. She is a member of the Asia Society, a professional networking organization that deals with international relations between the continent of Asia and its countries. “It is a way to connect cultures with America,” she explains. She recently attended the India Day Parade in Manhattan. She plans on joining the FIA, Federation of Indian Associates, to network her personal and professional affiliations. She attributes her beliefs to her parents who instilled a sense of caring for others and respect for identity at a very early age. “My parents gave me strong family values and character,” she smiles. But it is her position with the wellness department that gives Ruth the opportunity to care for others. “I love working with different kinds of people,” she says. Also, Ruth has a proactive approach towards life which easily rubs off onto others around her. Her philosophy is one of healing and maintaining a positive attitude. “I learn from the residents, their personal stories, their history. I am interested in who they are,” she maintains. In addition to being very proud of her heritage and Indian culture, Ruth loves photography. She will be taking photos at the Long Island Surfing Competition in Long Beach. One thing is certain, Ruth captures the true picture of what a Bristal best employee should be like. Congratulation on being Employee of the Month!
